i'll put it this way. whatever you do, don't hold the [DOWN] button on the d-pad to quickly scroll to the
bottom of the page. there'll be a full-on freeze at the same point every time.
Yeah, I had this on Jeff's long running NeoGaf thread and 4.2 has made this issue much worse (several minute lockup instead of just scrolling too far). Sony should refer back to the NetFront implementation as they had the cursor key handling almost spot on (you lucky people in the U.K. can try this for yourselves as some TV service apps still use the old browser).
On a more positive note, I've noticed some more fixes:

i'm not sure what's going on, but the layout issue i reported here:
http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation
is no longer an issue.
i'm back on my standard settings:
video output - 1080i
view - standard size
display area - standard size
resolution - normal
everything loads & displays perfectly again, just like it did prior to v.4.20.
strange.

Man, the PS3's very own "Cookie Monster" has gone into overdrive since 4.2.

It seems like I've had to re-log into this site and others, every day now (twice today for this forum!), which is likely due to associated cookies going A.W.O.L. ...
And, I've also had a couple of full on crashes (XMB animation stops) on this site (reported to Sony using automated page), after which I ran the corruption check, so cookie issue may well be a general problem, which has just got a whole lot worse (as opposed to being caused by persisting HD corruption).
Don't get me wrong though, I'm still liking this update, especially as it shows Sony is willing to make improvements

"Man, the PS3's very own "Cookie Monster" has gone into overdrive since 4.2."
Was just about to ask if anyone knew how the cookies on the browser work? I can't figure out whats going on with them. Sometimes I dont have to log into sites for weeks, but other times it's like every visit. There doesn't appear to be any consistency.
Is it a case of the browser only being able to store a certain number before deleting them? If so, does it delete all, or just some? And if that is whats happening why is it I've never had to re-log into m.facebook since I first logged in? never? Yet the online TV Guide website I use has me logging in every couple of days? Does it treat diferent cookies differently? .....Why?
If Sony are still in the mood to continue updating then It'd be nice if you could "bookmark" certain cookies so they don't get deleted until you decide for yourself.
Anyway, minor gripe really. I too am liking the little tweaks Sony have done, although the cursor jumping around the screen as a page loads has its moments of irritation while I try to figure out where its ended up. .....Hehe, Sonys own version of "where's Wally?" LOL

i was going to say you took the words out of my mouth Berzerker793, but actually you took them ALL out!
log-in details definitely used to be deleted with every browser close, but now it seems quite random.
btw, while you've been calling it sony's version of 'where's wally', we've been calling it 'cursor pinball' lol...
cursor usually ends up bottom left, just off screen

Browser cookies come in two flavours: session and persistent. Thank heavens, session cookies, which the Cookie Monster is only allowed to eat when you exit the browser, have always been safe. But he's always had trouble resisting the persistent cookies, before they expire naturally (they have an expiry date & time), and far more so in the new browser (introduced back in February) and now in 4.2, it's just crazy (does he know something we don't
). Now It's looking more like a storage issue, as opposed to incorrectly applying the expiry date / time.
Whatever the case, I wouldn't of thought it would be too difficult to put Cookie Monster back on rations (although you might need a virtual crane to lift him now
).

Yeah, Sony is automatically setting focus to Flash objects, for some reason...
P.S. It's been assumed that the browser has to work in a small memory footprint, so it can be used "in game", but if this so, why can't it detect when it's launched directly from XMB and have access to all available RAM (around 200k)?

Thanks for the replies guys, ...and for the explaination Tribble6
thats answered a few questions for me. And its always good to know that theres other people out there noticing the browsers (sometimes) erratic behaviour.

As for this ^^^ yes, yes, yes. This is something I've wondered since day one of getting my PS3. Hopefully the forthcoming threat from Microsoft putting a browser in the xbox might give Sony the impetuous to move the browser development forwards by leaps and bounds rather than the baby steps they're taking at the moment. (Although baby steps are still better than standing still though.)
Thanks though. ...now off to play "Where's Wally", or maybe I'll try a bit of gymno's "pinball" ![]()

I've noticed in the last week or so that Yahoo Mail Classic has gone kaput on PS3. Pages don't appear to load correctly because they lack colour, graphics etc. I'm less concerned with these ostensibly aesthetic errors than the fact that I can't read email messages when I open them because they appear blank.
I signed up to PSN five years ago using my Yahoo Mail account and in the ensuing years have never seen a problem like this before on PS3. It seems to have become almost impossible to find a way to contact Yahoo directly regarding this issue so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

All Email users should use Gmail when on PS3.
It can be setup to Auto read other email account providers and it can be set up to send from those accounts as well.
Which seeing as its owned buy the same people as Youtube Is realy strange to see so much usability on the PS3 browser from the owner of a site which just hates the PS3 browser user.
Edit : never mind the link was realy so at loading on screen. Gametrailers new site has gone mega slow in the PS3 browser and RSS feed has Vanished/Broken on PC.
