Yeah, I had this on Jeff's long running NeoGaf thread and 4.2 has made this issue much worse (several minute lockup instead of just scrolling too far). Sony should refer back to the NetFront implementation as they had the cursor key handling almost spot on (you lucky people in the U.K. can try this for yourselves as some TV service apps still use the old browser).
On a more positive note, I've noticed some more fixes:
- On switching back to a window with animated images (GIF's etc), the animations resume as normal (instead of going crazy fast).
- The first time you click a text box containing text, that has focus (text shown with blue background (selected)), selection is now cleared (avoiding unintentional deletion of existing text, where adding text).
Previously, you had to press R1 (to clear selection and move text cursor to end), before typing first character. This was way too complicated, given that you could just backspace text (hold down Square) or press Square + L1 to delete existing text.
- Links can once again be programmatically given focus (restores bookmarklet to former glory - yay

Man, the PS3's very own "Cookie Monster" has gone into overdrive since 4.2.
It seems like I've had to re-log into this site and others, every day now (twice today for this forum!), which is likely due to associated cookies going A.W.O.L. ...
And, I've also had a couple of full on crashes (XMB animation stops) on this site (reported to Sony using automated page), after which I ran the corruption check, so cookie issue may well be a general problem, which has just got a whole lot worse (as opposed to being caused by persisting HD corruption).
Don't get me wrong though, I'm still liking this update, especially as it shows Sony is willing to make improvements .

If Sony are still in the mood to continue updating then It'd be nice if you could "bookmark" certain cookies so they don't get deleted until you decide for yourself.
Browser cookies come in two flavours: session and persistent. Thank heavens, session cookies, which the Cookie Monster is only allowed to eat when you exit the browser, have always been safe. But he's always had trouble resisting the persistent cookies, before they expire naturally (they have an expiry date & time), and far more so in the new browser (introduced back in February) and now in 4.2, it's just crazy (does he know something we don't ). Now It's looking more like a storage issue, as opposed to incorrectly applying the expiry date / time.
Whatever the case, I wouldn't of thought it would be too difficult to put Cookie Monster back on rations (although you might need a virtual crane to lift him now ).

Yeah, Sony is automatically setting focus to Flash objects, for some reason...
P.S. It's been assumed that the browser has to work in a small memory footprint, so it can be used "in game", but if this so, why can't it detect when it's launched directly from XMB and have access to all available RAM (around 200k)?

thats answered a few questions for me. And its always good to know that theres other people out there noticing the browsers (sometimes) erratic behaviour.

As for this ^^^ yes, yes, yes. This is something I've wondered since day one of getting my PS3. Hopefully the forthcoming threat from Microsoft putting a browser in the xbox might give Sony the impetuous to move the browser development forwards by leaps and bounds rather than the baby steps they're taking at the moment. (Although baby steps are still better than standing still though.)

I've noticed in the last week or so that Yahoo Mail Classic has gone kaput on PS3. Pages don't appear to load correctly because they lack colour, graphics etc. I'm less concerned with these ostensibly aesthetic errors than the fact that I can't read email messages when I open them because they appear blank.
I signed up to PSN five years ago using my Yahoo Mail account and in the ensuing years have never seen a problem like this before on PS3. It seems to have become almost impossible to find a way to contact Yahoo directly regarding this issue so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
