--Question for anyone willing to answer--

If you take the hard drive out of your PS3, put it in an external USB case, then put another hard drive in your PS3 then plug in your old hard drive by USB, can you then access your movies/songs/save games on that hard drive through your PS3?

Intersting thought. Does anyone have the answer??

I don't currently have any large hard drives with me at the moment, nothing that's 60gig anyway, and I don't have the patience to swap all the music and videos from it in 4 gig chunks, so what I was planning is backing up saves and stuff, then putting the drive in a case and copying it. I'll experiment anyway...

[ Edited ]

No you cant put your old internal PS3 HDD into

an external case and read from it.

Tried it, didnt work, you may be able to read it

from linux, but I havnt even installed linux on

the PS3 yet.

Edit: Nevermind just read up, linux doesnt support

the internal file system.

Re: The Unofficial PS3 Hard Drive Upgrade Thread

I've managed to get 4gig+ file onto my iPod, yes it is fat32,

but it was image'd there directly from my CD Drive.

I could be wrong and images might be something different

when it comes to fat32, but it definitely worked on the other

end.

Only problem is that you can't open CD media from a USB

on the PS3, so no point.

You could also try WinRar'ing a file onto the drive, and then

constructing it on the hard drive.

Haven't tried the WinRar technique, just tossing it out there,

so don't get your hopes up.

Check the PS3 Ubuntu/YDL releases of linux to see if there

was any compatibility with any part of the file system.

I highly doubt it, but its worth checking it out if you havnt

already.
