There be lag when before, there was no lag... Help!

Hey,

About a month or so ago I began to notice every game I played of MW2 was terribly laggy. Thought it was just a bad day kind of thing, and hoped it would go away.

It is still happening, I cannot get a decent connection anymore, I have changed nothing at all, although last night I switched on Port Forwarding which didn't seem to make any difference.

Can anyone help explain why it has suddenly become laggy? I do'nt have download limits and my NAT type is 2, although sometimes MW2 says 'None'.

The PS3 is connected Wirelessly to my Wanadoo Livebox, and I can download/upload at reasonable rates most of the time.

Can anyone offer some help? I will be glad to give more info (which I'm sure I need to) in order to help solve this.

Cheers.

Try using a wired connection.

And if that is more hassle than it should be...

Any other ideas?

Other then maybe using a different router i don't know. It could just be the game, do other games lag?

[ Edited ]

Predominantly Fifa 11(10 before last week) and MW2 but I used to be able to play both without lag.

I thought it was because at about 6 o clock (pm) there are a lot of people online etc and bandwidth was reduced but then it would always get better in the evenings. Now it just stays laggy all night long.

I downloaded a 304mb patch for Resistance 2 last night in about 30 minutes, maybe a little more, and that seemed very rapid in fairness.

Could something be crippling my upload?

I set up port forwarding according to a guide on the Wanadoo forum, but I read something about creating a DMZ for the PS3. Realising DMZ will make the Port Forwarding redundant, is there any advantage of DMZ over Port Forwarding?

Ideally I would like to establish a NAT Type 1 situation, but I don't even know if that will solve the problem!

Thanks for your help.

The only way to get a NAT Type 1 is by a wired connection I think man.

Correct. NAT Type 1 will only ever occur when you have a direct, wired connection to the internet (no router at all).
With a router you want Type 2. FIFA11 has issues right now, so that explains FIFA's issues but COD? Not sure mate.
You got all your ports open?

It could be something as simple as somebody close by putting up a wifi network in their home on the same channel as you. The problem with wifi is that your bandwidth is always shared with every other wifi device in the area (visible or not).

I got fed up with my wifi getting slower and slower as more and more people got it around me. Wired solved all those problems very quickly.

Care to elaborate on why I should change from Orange?

And a wired connection may well be the way to go but it means the cable will run across the door, and just makes a lot more hassle than needs to be. (I will if I have to though).

And Furiekins, do you mean any other wifi devices, switched on or otherwise will have a bandwidth allocation? Eg, my Blackberry, PSP, Sony Walkman and VAIO (Sony fanboy much? lol) all have WiFi capabilities, but even if they aren't on the network so to speak, there is bandwidth reserved for them?

Or have I totally missed the point?
