Re: Too many games of the same type on PS3

I have many different varietes of game for my Ps3,
GRiD (racer), CoD4 (Fps), Oblivion (RPG), Uncharted (Adventure) etc

The only thing I would say is that the Ps3 lacks in Role-playing games.

As good as Elite was back in its day, come to think of it the game was the father of its genre, the X-Universe is now king. Either way, this would be the first game in nearly 10 years that would catch my attention to buy on release day at all costs.

I mean, space on PS3's Cell? HELL YEAH I'M GAME FOR THAT! :smileyhappy:

EDIT: And agree with the poster who said younger audience do not know what they have missed... totally agree, they never had fly their spaceship million of miles to a planet only to find at the last moment that your auto-landing software was broke in a firefight :smileysad:

Re: Too many games of the same type on PS3

Lol @ people who've never played a 360 thinking they know everything :smileytongue:

On a serious note, I think there are too many FPS.

We need more 3PS like Gears of War, and also more 3rd person action/adventure games like Uncharted & Tomb Raider.

Why don't we just end this argument here and all rally together to get a remake of the old classic, Spy vs Spy?  That would be a great game to bring to the next gen world...imagine online play??  Fantastic!!!

Because it has already been tried ...... But it wasn't Fantastic!!!

[ Edited ]

Yup, I remember the good old days of sitting at a Vic 20 or BBC computer
with the tape player hooked up trying to get the bloody thing to load lol.
After about 1/2hr of adjusting the volume and starting the load procedure
again the game would finally load.

I used to rush around my friends house straight after school so we could
play on his Vic 20, blocky graphics, old school “chip music” beeping away
what a great time we had =)

Then came the legendary C64 with a whole host of classic games, and the
legendary Rob Hubbard producing some of the best “Chip Music” which still
gets much admiration from the 8bit DemoScene people, who still keep this
style of music alive until this day.

For those that don’t know about the DemoScene, take a look at these links
below. (If you like music, graphics & art rolled into one make sure you check it out)

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene

 http://www.scene.org/

The trailer “Linger in the Shadows“ for the PS3 was created by a DemoScene
group called “Plastic”.

Some of these DemoScene groups go on to work in the gaming industry, due
to their knowledge they acquire from producing these demos.

Anyway, back to the topic…

As someone said earlier in this post it would be a great idea for some remakes of
the old classics to appear on the PSN, I am sure there would
be lots of people that would happily download them =)

They have one vote here for a “Retro Remake” game section ;-)

I also whole heartedly agree with GTA1 that the PS3 lacks RPG’s and it feels like
a life time waiting for Final Fantasy to come out. The good thing with most RPG’s
is that they have a longer playing time than most of the other styles of game and
a good storyline, which is needed to hold the game together.

Also I am sure someone out there could code an emulator that could be
used on the PS3 that would allow people to play old games.

I know that ScummVM http://www.scummvm.org/
have an program that allows you to play old games on different systems. “Among the
systems on which you can play those games are Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Dreamcast,
PocketPC, PalmOS, AmigaOS, BeOS, OS/2, PSP, PS2, SymbianOS and many more.”

So just need to wait until they do a PS3 port =)

I've been playing Monkey Island on my N95 thanks to ScummVM and it plays &

looks great =) so if it can be done on a mobile, it surely must be able to be done on the

PS3 ;-)

I was never a Commodore fan, but even so, Rob Hubbard was a genius. I'll never forget the first time 3 channel music was produced on the Speccy, in the game 'Fairlight'. And I won't go in to how cool we all thought digitised speech was when we heard it for the first time ! At the time it was a technological breakthrough lol.

I can't remember if it was the first time I heard it or not, but I remember hearing it on the speccy version of 'The Running Man'. Little cutscene before the game starts then suddenly, 10 times louder than any other noise, digitised Arnie shouting 'I'll be back'. Made me jump

Re: Too many games of the same type on PS3

So maybe its just a question of choice - All football teams play football (thats their primary function), and yet we are prepared spend variations of money on tickets, season tickets but people do it because of varying factors (your home town, your mates go their, its a family day out etc). You're watching people kick a ball about. Its the same format. And the big clubs cream the hard earned (from joe public) cash.

I do think the PS3 does have a varied list of titles (but I too get fed up of seeing FPS's but then think to my downturn dislike to football, people need to follow something even it does follow the same principles). I still think that the PS3 should perhaps add more in the way of applications. Maybe some of the old games do have a thing to teach... but to be honest the new FPS are really just superduper versions of them, it's just that they have new followers.

Even Uncharted to me gets boring towards the end, its the same format, find , shoot , kill, popup things.

I too was a Myst(myst, riven, exile, revelation, uru) player enjoyed the puzzles etc but again it was the same format which did get boring.
Remember the 3D Maze on the ZX81 (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N-r5JMyyOVM) I remember I got bored with it very quickly ... but what was nice was I found I could change the code. This then brought out my creativeness and my future profession (running around mazes, NOT).

LBP introduces this changeability in a easy simple format (without complicated codes) and instant results ( and no crashing hopefully !! )

Maybe we need more interactive hardware interfaces with the games, maybe we're just looking for something that is like Red Dwarfs - "Better than life" , immersion play. :smileyvery-happy:
