imo saying "I have 41 plats", is better than 786548979540 gamer score. It makes you think about the effort gone into each and every one.

yeah but then they could say "power level...over 9000 (Dragon Ball Z reference there)

the achievement notification is much better than the trophy one for a few reasons:

1. if you unlock 2/3 achievements in one go, which happens more than youd think, on the 360 you get a single notification saying 'unlocked 2 achievements for 50 points' or however many it it is. with trophies, the notification comes up for one, stays for 5 secs and goes away, then a few seconds later another pops up and does the same, and so on. the achievements notification is much nicer and easier on the eyes.

2. when you unlock an achievement and it pops up on screen, if you press the guide button you go directly to the achievement list for that game and to that achievement. with trophies, if you press the PS button when the trophy notification is on the screen, you just go to the regular in-game xmb.

3. the placing of the notification - 360 developers can customise where their pop-ups go, doesnt seem to be the case for the PS3. most 360 games default to the bottom middle of the screen, which rarely gets in the way of any HUD details. the PS3s default to the top right of the screen, often covering up HUD details.

4. the achievement notification looks nicer, as its got a nice smooth animation. the xbox logo comes up, then the description bar slides out from the right. after a few seconds, the description bar slides back into the logo and a second later the logo fades out. on the PS3 the box just pops on, then disappears a few seconds later, doesnt even fade out iirc.

My first ever kudos for you  Agreed. Although as I said, they're all only minor luxuries. Developers being able to place the notification where they wish is great. Another thing I liked about achievements in Gears of War was the updates you got every x percentage.. I wish they'd put that in the firmware for either PS3 or 360 -- as a option, of course, as others wouldn't really like that.

Not a bad article here from IGN comparing the two systems (achievements and trophies), very pro-PS3.

I agreed with his first line... but then I lost respect for him with this statement -

When I hear that Hannah Montana only takes four hours to Platinum, I dedicate my weekend to it. When I read about some system clock or patch problem that results in cheap Trophies, I'm doing it.

Agreed. I'd never play a game just because they have easy achievements. I used to love getting them for games I liked but I'm kind of over them now.. hell, I haven't even completed Uncharted 2 on crushing yet, let alone platniumed it.

Re: Trophies Should have Scores (similar to 360)

Really... .. take Singstar... it's hardly a game people play for a Plat trophy... they play because they like to make fools of themselves singin... :smileywink: ... So while I know there are a handful of people got plats in the first month or so, most normal mortals won't ever get it, nor ever try to get it...

Am I the only one who finds it more satisfying WAITING until Xmas Day to get the Xmas Day trophy to unlock, because the family are coming around, and the kids want to play... then by changing the system clock to get it?? ... As I said, it's not like it is likely to be the only trophy standing in the way of the Plat.... you've still got online trophies which take either hundreds of ours of play, or to a degree, cheating to get..... and some bloody offline trophies that most people won't get..

Mignun unfortunately 46 platinums is small fry. Theres one PSN name on my list that has 80 platinums and another over 56 platinums.. The highest anyone knows of is 108 platinums but that account is believed to be run my multiple users.

As for the OP it is widely known that all trophies have a point value. You can clearly see that when someone has less trophies but a higher score than you. If you would like to work out your specific score then heres the values people have accepted for the trophies.

Bronze - 15
Silver - 30
Gold - 90
Platinum - 180

These are taken as if any game is allocated 1050 points to distribute. You add it up all your trophy games will come to the same value. So grab a calculator and work out your gamerscore or use a gamercard that does it for you ^^.

Geez.....I tell you what, It takes alot more trophies to reach the next level as you go higher, I've especially noticed it once your over level 11, and now................
Being on level 12 it looks like it's gonna take alot to get to level 13...............I got 4 bronze and 2 silver today, and my level 12 percentage only went up 2% :smileysad:

*anyway I just felt like a little ranting & raving* :smileytongue:
