lol
I did turn it off (Correctly) as you would Normally then turn the Power Switch off (Last) meaning hold the button down until in Stanby mode...

Edit

I sold my 80GB to get the PS3 Slim (Only Paid $75 for the Slim)

Yes to get all the New Benifits in Cooling etc... not to fussed on extra Hard Drive Space tho it would be better with more. Also have no interest in installing a Linux System anyway plus I got 2 new Games as well saving another $150 about.

So I am happy with what I did.

Phew, good thing to know that you put it in stand by first. Some people would actually simplyturn the thing off from the mains power straight away...

Anyway, sorry for any misunderstandings.

I used to Turn the Power Switch on my Old PS3 off where the Slim no longer has it, is it safe to Unplug the Power Lead when not in Use ? Thanks for your help.

Why would you want to do that anyway ??

Electronics don't like being cut off from power...........do you shutdown and turn off your PC at the power point??

Why should the PS3 be any different ??

Yes, I unplug all my Electricle Appliances, And I also have them hooked up to a Power Surge Protector.

Electricity is not Cheap & to save more when Unplugging them can save you a lot, my computer has a light that tells me it is off which uses power the same thing with PS3 Slim My Speakers my Mouse etc...

When I turn an Appliance off it should be off completely not Neccessarly Unpluged, my Computer has got a Power Switch on back of Power Supply.

If those things are not needed then why are they there in the 1st place ?

I have been doing this for years...

Re: Upgrading to a PS3 Slim - Questions and Answers FAQ

got my 120gb slim today from JB to replace my broken 40gb, did the restore to it which was way too fast for having done much. All it did was put my save game files on (most of them, even Tomb Raider that was protected) but I was surprised to get absolutely NO settings, no game data, no applications like vidzone, iView etc.

From my experience, if you have a stack of stuff on your console and you're getting a slim to replace it, don't waste 2 hours making a backup of 90gb like me, just copy your saves and save yourself some time!

Did you read the FAQ?

5. Can I just transfer my hard-drive from my current system to my new console?

You can if you like, but the Hard-drive will reformat itself. The reason for this is that the hard-drives of Playstation 3 consoles are formatted to specific console ID's. If this ID is changed, the Hard-drive will reformat to the new ID presented. (Edited by Sanguine)

On the other hand, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I'll be buying a slim PS3 because mine died, I fixed it but I'm not trusting it to last longer than a couple of hours of gameplay, I'm shocked it lasted more than 5 minutes. Regardless, I'm buying a slim. However, I want to transfer my 500GB hard drive to the slim without losing my data. Pretty sure I can't do that. Either I use the 500GB and lose my copy protected data, or I keep everything and use the 120GB. Or am I missing something?

Re: Upgrading to a PS3 Slim - Questions and Answers FAQ

good topic answered my questions about the whole if i were to switch to a slim, 80gb is not enough i guess i could get an external HDD and trophies being kept on your profile, kinda worried about all that hard work lost if my ever ps3 broke.
