I'd rather pay up front and not be tied into a crappy contract. Also, they'd likely go the way of phone contracts where eventually you'd be paying the price the thing is actually worth, and then still being tied into a contract.

They'll be a lot of dissappointed kids when parents won't be able to keep up with payments and there is always one that misses payment dates. I always say "If you want something, you earn and save for it." I'm not keen on contract stuff. I do hope however that contract PS3's won't over shadow the way the console is sold using a one off payment like mobiles are.

I don't think any manufacturer is going to make that mistake again. £425 was too much and Sony cut the price within months. If Apple enters the market they will have to compete with 3 main top consoles companies. They need a great start so the price has to be reasonable. Apple is a massive brand, but they can't make the same misakes as the Pippin in the 90s.

Great for those that want to pay in parts and can't get the cash all at once, but erm... He said they'll bring out up to date hardware every 2 years??! 

I paid around that for my phat 60Gb PS3, and that is meant to last around 8 years-ish before the next gen comes out.

so around £500 one off payment for 8 years tech before upgrade....

or around £500 for 2 years tech before upgrade?

Hmmm let me think about that one for a bit.

yes but you know how it is with apple, they say jump and the apple fans do.

look at the rediculous prices of the ipad and iphones. they are far too expensive for what they are but apple fan boys still pay the money.

I can honestly say I'd put a lot of money on Apple not entering into the console market. They have the casual/handheld market by the the short & curlies. I think they're happy where they are at the forefront of smartphones and tablets.
