Re: What Has Given Microsoft an Advantage?

Being able to play online split screen on the same console is a big thing for me (yes I know 'some' games for the PS allows this)

Re: What Has Given Microsoft an Advantage?

I think its a lot more even now,Playstation know what fans want and thats exclusive IPs whereas Xbox have some better features they were also first to the market this gen by a year which would of helped, and Playstations Launch price would not of helped(i paid £425 for my PS3 and £279 for my Xbox 360,both on launch days)

but as i said,Playstation has caught up now,its just those obssesed people who care about the 360 selling more in America and UK while Playstation sells more in Europe and Japan, swings and roundabouts and therefor is why i say Microsoft doesn't really have much of an advantage now

Multiplat Games are also holding their own on the PS3 now, where some versions now look better than the 360 those that don't look better are not as behind as they used to be

Next Gen will be very interesting,if SONY has been paying attention they can have an online package to rival LIVE and hopefully keep the prices as it is(online free, but extras for PSN+)

anyway,as i have both...i declare that I have the advantage :smileyvery-happy:

Re: What Has Given Microsoft an Advantage?

In terms of sales, it was the head start.

When averaged out for time on the market (worldwide) the PS3 has sold better than the 360. The high price was never a big issue; twas the 360's head start.

hmm lets see well they have Mass Effect 1...not enough? Maybe its the ability to play our own music during gameplay no? Maybe its the fact that PS3 can actually get away with charging almost $100 for one measly controller and don't get me started on the price of games or maybe even the fact they have never closed for over a month to fix a hacking problem due to their own negligence X-box doesn't even have close to the amount of problems i have with the ps3. Sorry if i am cynical but you wanted reasons why people might dislike ps3 over x-box so there it is. I lost lot of good friends to the outage and have never really recovered my enthusiasm for the ps3 that i used to have i sincerely hope it never happens again.

Neither have the advantage.

The Advantage the ps1 and ps2 had was due to the versatility of the consoled Sony making it worth them putting games on the playstation brand.

The original Xbox all but failed, it sold more than the gamecube but much less than the ps2.

So Microsoft used it muscle to get the 360 out their which in their case is money.

TBH the only one with the only clear advantage over the since 2006 was thw Wii though it has done little in the last two years but still outsold both Ps3 and 360.

The high price of the Ps3 in the early days which lead to a very fast redesign and price big price cut

So IMO the advantage MS did have has gone.

Neither have the advantage and compertion makes it even better for us gamers but not fanboys.

Below is a Signature

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

^yes that...

...however i do feel compelled to add this:

about a year ago i was barely into gaming anymore & knew nothing about the current generation. most people i know were in the same boat as me, yet we all had the same general view of what was out there:

wii: LIGHT. cornered the family fun market & got you jumping around in your lounge (good on them)

xbox360: MEDIUM. basic console, great for gaming but a bit cheap & unreliable

ps3: HEAVY. equal to 360 with gaming + good blu ray player, browser & free network, but expensive

personally, i think sony should ditch the model they use for their other av products & realise they may have missed a trick here.

there's no need to stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap if you've already carved out that ^ kind of identity with the general public

you get what you pay for

edit: to op's original question? answer = price. always comes down to £'s
