What PS2 games can I play on my PS3?

I've got a few old PS2 games and some of them I tried don't work. What playstation 2 games work for my ps3 system?

As others have said, only the 60GB model can play them. You can buy some PS2 classic titles which have been remastered in HD and have had trophies added.

The SingStar PS2 discs can be used though with the PS3 version.

Does anyone know why they only introduced backward compatibility in the 60GB models?

No, Sony later admitted they just removed it to make people buy PS3 games instead of playing PS2 games. The extra costs for PS2 backwards compability (the Graphic Synthesizer chip, nothing more is needed) is negligible.
