Man i have put off getting a slim so far I do plan on getting one for launch of Final Fantasy I will probably get the 250gb..

All I hear on here is How noisy the SLIMS are and then those that have gone deaf saying how quiet they are.. 

Personally my PS3 is silent most of the time, tho if i have the heating on it will sound like a plane taking off for 5 mins then goes silent again..   My mates slim sounded like its trying to take off all the time..

I have to wonder if the problem is the surface that people keep thier slims on, the old heavy PHAT ps3 when lying horizontal has little or no vibration from the fan (its heavy and has good rubber feet to rduce vibration).   I can imagine the fan and cheaper foot pads causing more vibration in the console so sounding louder on certain surfaces.   

Try putting extra fat rubber feet on the slim to reduce teh vibration, this made my mates ps3 a lot quieter, but cant say it would be the case for everyone...

anyhow just a thought...

We are watching PlayTV at the moment and I can not hear the PS3 over the top of the tv sound, which isn't loud in anyway. Infact my laptop is noiser than the PS3.

Wow! This is the longest thread I think I have made.

I don't care too much, just thought I would voice my opinion, and that the fan shouldn't kick in as soon as the game starts. But hey, I got a years warranty so it's all good.

And where's this evidence of 120GB being inferior fan wise to 250GB?

I love my slim. Traded my 60GB for it. Its only cost me £50 and i got a free game out of it so its win win

Ive never noticed it being loud at all during gameplay. I do notice on mine the fan does get quite loud when you load a dvd. But once its gets going it quiets down.

Its a 120GB model btw. Had no problems with it thus far and ive had it for about 4 months or so.

Aslong as my slim lasts longer than my 60gb I won't have any further disappointments

Heres something - is it better to keep a slim horizontal or vertically? Mine is currently laying flat down on a glass pane table with about a foot either side of it for air... despite the fact they got rid of one vent grill on the top =/

I was considering getting a PS3 Slim after my PS3 Phat died a few weeks back. I did some googling on the differences between the two models and the moment I saw "It doesn't have touch sensitive buttons" I was put off.

For me it seems like an ugly, basic, no thrills version of the PS3. Not ma thang. It's like buying a Bugatti Veyron and trading it in for a Nissan Sunny.

I dont think it makes much difference tbh. I keep mine horizontal. I did the same with my old 60Gb too. I just prefer my consoles that way. As you say, the only vent is at the back of the console so I doubt it makes much, if any, difference. I just make sure I keep it as dust free as possible. I give a thorough clean every day (Im a bit of a clean freak when it comes to things like the PS3) and I havent had any problems with either my slim or my 60Gb (before I got rid of it).

I personally prefer the old model...it looked sleek, sexy!  Felt like I was getting a lot for my money too t'was a beast!

My main gripe with my slim is the plastic case keeps cracking really loudly (due to heat expansion?) the fan is also louder than my old phat 40 Gig's
