Sold the HDD to a friend for a few quid and the console went in the wheely bin after it wouldn't fix a second time.

Re: What do people do with their PS3 when it's dead?

My YLOD 60GB became an organ doner to bring back to life a 40GB I bought cheep with a dead Blu-Ray drive.

Even with YLOD, no Blu-Ray drive and no HDD I still wont get rid of it though.

Re: What do people do with their PS3 when it's dead?

I sold mine to my mate as he's a bit of a tech geek and loves taking this apart. Gave me £20 for it seeing as it was a bricked YLOD case, which I didn' t mind . I think he managed to sell of parts seperate like the Blu Ray drive and diskplayer etc.

I was planning to put that £20 towards the new PS3 fund i had set, but ended up ***** it up against the wall at a day out at the football lol.

After deciding to use my dead PS3 as a piggy bank, I was wondering what other people did with their dead consoles. The PS3 would make a fairly good paperweight or doorstop, but I decided to do something that hasn't been done before (or att least I think that's the case).

I've seen someone use their PS3 as a grill, although when you read the article it becomes clear that this PS3 wasn't a victim of the YLOD, it was some idiot who has it in for Sony. The image is here - http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/20/the-real-ps3-grill-cooks-food-delivers-lousy-gameplay/

Noooo!... Sony; don't look? :smileysurprised:

All that hard work on Sony's part where they've precariously placed all the screws in the right compartment, made all the wires nice and neat and boxed everything into a nice little decorated package, but then you come along catapulting all that stuff in a plain cardboard box. :smileyvery-happy:

You should've given it a proper send off, like attatch some firework to the bottom and watch that PS3 take off in a colourful displayed fashion and then say "ashes to ashes; dust to dust" :smileywink:

I recused GT5 from my 60GB and put the console in the loft back in its box for future purposes.

Have mine in the corner of the room - still hoping that it will perform the miracle of self-repairing itself.
