Valve. I am not a massive fan (I still enjoy them however) of Half Life or Left 4 Dead or Counter Strike. However, they continually support their games (although, Half Life 2 Episode 3 may be the exception), something I cannot say about Kojima Productions (for Metal Gear Solid) or Bioware (for Mass Effect).

The only reason Infinity Ward is not on that list is beacuse thay allowed themselves to be totally ripped apart by Activision .... Lets hope Bungie doesnt go the same way.
But Max Payne was Developed by Remedy Entertainment? Rockstar Games did Publish it onto console though.

Naughty Dog - Well self explanatory really. They brought us Crash Bandicoot and then went on to bring us the fantastic Uncharted.
DICE & Guerilla Games - Just for their approach towards the FPS genre. Really tried to get something new out there.
Studio Liverpool - Have always loved Wipeout.
Core Design - Fantastic developing team that produced the original Tomb Raiders and were responsible for the ever successful Lara Croft.

For me it has to be between Criterion (Burnout) and Rockstar (GTA and RDR). If you asked me 2 years ago without a shadow of a doubt I would have said IW. How times change
Interesting that you'd pick those two, as I would too & I'd probably go as far as saying that I think Rockstar might not be as popular as they are today if it wasn't for Criterion games.
CG actually wrote the 'Renderware' engine that Rockstar used in GTA 3.
(I'm guessing that CG helped RG while implementing GTA3 on the PS2 with optimization tweaks & getting the game running as it did).
I'm not sure that without the "Renderware" platform that GTA3 would have been possible (in the form that it took).
Not sure where in the Renderware engine stopped & the RAGE engine started (Rockstar Advanced Graphics Engine), but I'm guessing that RAGE is built on the ideas used in Renderware. (Just my own thoughts though - no facts to back that up) ![]()
I'm guessing it's somewhere between GTA Vice City & San Andreas, but both those titles raised the bar on what games could be like.
**EDIT** just tried to recheck those games. Wikipedia states that the renderware platform was also used on both Vice City & San Andreas, but I can't recall seeing the trade mark mentioned in the game intro. Perhaps Renderware was used on those two also, but I can't confirm.**
Since R* have used their RAGE engine, we've seen some great games come out of the various R* studios. Not just the GTA series, but Midnight club, manhunt 1 (I'll ignore MH2), Red Dead (1 & 2) etc.
While Criterion raised the bar (again) in Black and all the racing games that have come from their propitiatory engine, they continue to get better & better with each release.
I was really impressed with the PS3 version of Burnout, it's amazing & looking at the in-game footage of "Hot Pursuit", it's hard to imagine how things can get better, but I'm sure they will manage to impress us for many more years to come.
