Why do you need to deactivate your account if it breaks

Mine got YLOD, now im hoping to get a new slim, put my old hard drive in the new one and format it, but ive seen posts saying you need to deactivate it but I dont know why

because you can only activate your PSN ID on 5 consoles - by not deactivating it, you risk running out :smileyhappy: (or :smileysad: more to the point)

Deactivation works by telling the sony server the console is inactive. Simply formating a drive wont do this.

If the old one gets fixed will the account be able to be re activiated, becuase i may be giving it to someone, obviously i would want them activating my account

Not if you formatted the drive since your user data will be deleted they cannot sign in as you.
