If there was some thing truly mind blowing i could do if i cracked my PS3 then i would. Other then using it to played copied games and PS2 emulator for people who dont have a 60GB system cant see much of a use really. I can all ready put Linux on if i like
As for folding@home using the RSX its a nice idea but the 7000 series GPUS are not compatible as its shaders are not complex enough.

I wouldn't hack it while I'm using it a my primary console for online games and stuff. My 60Gb handles my PS2 games, and the risks of being kicked off PSN or not being able to have a YLOD repaired is too great. Once the PS4 is out, and has become my sole-use console, then I'll hack into the PS3 and experiment.

No. Whats the point. The only console that ever stood up to the hacking test was the ps1. And that was many moons ago. I think Mr Holtz has not experience the full wrath of what hacking it could do to the ps3. It could kill it after a month.
The PS1 was hacked, there were chips available to allow you to run copied/region locked games for sure (So I've heard...)
Personally I wouldn't hack the PS3, I (may) have run "enchanced" consoles in the past but feel that the volume of games I ended up with detracted from their value. Now I only have games that I actually want. Even that aside, I enjoy playing online and wouldn't want banned because I wouldn't stump up the cash for a game. The PS3 is my media hub in the living room, I honestly don't know what I'd do without it these days and if you were to chip the machine there's a fairly big risk that you'd break it.
Games these days aren't all that expensive, sure on release day they might be ~£40+ in some shops but shopping around on the net they can usually be found cheaper. Give it a few months and most games are half that anyway. I find that if I buy a game I enjoy it more, the reason being that if I've stumped up the cash I'll play it through. Pirated games don't have that for me, and when I have too many I never play them all through and have missed some gems in the past as a result.
At the end of the day, if everyone were to run pirated software then there would be no money for future releases, or prices would have to be increased. I know that the entertainment industry has been saying this for years, but it makes sense.
I do see one plus point in a cracked console. The original xbox had some great utilities and emulators you could run when it was chipped. xbox media centre (XBMC) was a brilliant media player, and could upscale to 1080i,720p very well. Though we all know that when you chip/crack/hack a console it's only a matter of time before you start running pirated games.
