audio output issue

Have a mitsubishi RDT27IWV Wide monitor which has a dvi, hdmi x 2 and RCA ports.
Have connected my pc to the DVI and no problem with the sound.
Connect the PS3 via HDMI for video and the RCA for audio.
Changed the settings in the PS3 to output to multi scart(or whatever it is called)

But when using the PS3 no audio....

So this indicates that the speakers on the monitor are fine and is an issue with the PS3. I did a reboot and a set back to default settings but no luck...

Have spent hours on this and am at a loss..

Is there any way you could test the PS3 sound on somthing else, most stereos have 'AUX' in.

Also why not use the HDMI for both sound and video?

Doulble check it's not the cable, if you have one, switch it with a PS2 cable and see.

Re: audio output issue

I should have said that yes the PS3 works fine connected to my TV via HDMI or RCA.
The HDMI port on the monitor does not support audio output I guess which is common for monitors.
