DS3 controllers have a lithium battery in them. You should never let a lithium battery go dead flat, otherwise it flips a safety circuit inside the battery and you can never fully charge them again. You may have experienced this on a mobile phone where the battery bulges in the middle and won't stay charged. With a mobile phone you can just replace the battery but with a DS3 I'm not sure.
You should charge your PS3 controllers whenever you are not using them. You cannot overcharge a lithium battery. When you buy your replacement DS3 controller get yourself a charging dock as well (or a powered USB hub).

Hey again,
Any official PlayStation peripheral has a 12 month instore warranty.
Simply take the affected peripheral to the store of purchase with valid receipt and they can replace it on the spot.
They may want to confirm you've contacted your local Support Centre to perform adequate troubleshooting ![]()
