Looking at the inputs, I don't see why it wouldn't :smileyhappy:

Wouldn't have of thought so. That is a PC device and requires PC drivers to recognise and use the device which you wouldn't be able to install on your PS3. I would certainly look to try before you buy.

EDIT Just seen it has an optical input too. It should work then.

Im not sure, it is an external sound card, it will process sound and the PS3 does not send sound data to the USB ports, excluding headset data. And i can bet it is not plug & play and will need drivers, and as such can only be used on a PC

Re: does anyone know if this could be used with the ps3?

Well what i mean by headset data is data for voice chat, so say you wantot hear all the audio from RDR from a headset plugged in via USB, you can't, you would only be able to use this for voice chat and then agian the headset would still have to be USB as the PS3 needs to detact a USB headset for voice chat to be output using the USB ports.

No it will not work.

An older Creative Extigy Sound Blaster External Sound Card

is a stand-alone unit that does what your looking for.

Can be found on eBay for @40

For true discrete Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound on  the PS3,

I use a Extigy with a pair of 5.1 Turtle Beach HPA2's, and a USB mic input. Amazing!

Another DAC (digital to analog converter) that works with the PS3 is the HD Audio Rush Digital Surround Sound Decoder.

They sell the complete kit HERE -- for  the PS3 you'll also need a USB mic input. No problem. Just plug the mic line into the mic input of a USB External Sound Card Audio Adapter

This rig is for Competitive Gaming.

A DYI Project for the serious gamer.

True Dolby Digital. Not ProLogic or Dolby Headphone.

Here's a Review of the Extigy / HPA2 setup.

Here's a YouTube Review of what it considered to be the top 2 Competive Gaming Headsets.

(Remember - Reviews are opinions)

If that's all too much for you; the easiest route to 5.1 Nirvana =

Sharkoon X-Tatic True 5.1 Headset
