Personally, I wasn't to keen on NV due to the combat system. My opinion though of course.

Naturally! Out of interest, do you mean you didn't like the one in Fallout 3 either, or you just didn't like NV's?

I didn't have Fallout 3, only played a hour on my brother's XBOX360, so didn't really use it much, but I meant the overall system of stopping time, pinpointing body parts then sitting waiting whilst the computer did the work. I know you can use the normal aim and shoot method, but it just wasn't good enough on its own for me.

Only played up to the bit where in the town everyones in leather jackets and Elvis looking if that helps? :smileyvery-happy:

Ah yeah. I know what you mean - when I first played #3 it felt like the shooting mechanics were just really bad, but in time I kinda realised that it suits its RPG genre really well. Having an alternative to 1st person shooting is nice in a game where you're not constantly dealing with waves and waves of enemies.

It just seemed to pull you away from the game, ruining potential epic fights.

Hmmm I thought the opposite because the cinematic angles and slow-mo make every shot important and visible. The shooting mechanics are kinda bland in 1st person, but in VATS the guns seem to pack a much bigger punch and the gun models look better. Still, to each their own!

Re: game recommendations?

When I first played fallout 3 I didn't get on with it because of the shooting, I was also trying to play it in 3rd person which makes free aim shooting impossible.

I got new vegas a while ago, played it in 1st person so you can shoot properly (I've since got more used to 1st person viewpoint) and understand the VATS shooting and enjoyed it a lot more.

I'll try it again on a rainy day, maybe I was wrong!
