what is better is hdmi cable better than the componet or vice versa. I currently have the hdmi cable and it does look good in either 720p or 1080p  (depndent on game/movie).

component old hat? was good but not much hardware has a component input these days?

both on paper give same quality.
but hdmi is one cable and more popular.
i guess it wins, not really sure though

HDMI is better for PS3 because

- It lets you upscale DVD's and PS1/2 games.
- I can do 1080p for BR's, component can't due to copyright restrictions.

Also, a lot of the component cables on sale for PS3 made by third party manufacturers are crap.
