help needed copying music files

Can anyone please advise on the following issue. I am having difficulty with audio files on my ps3.

Here is my setup:-

I have a 300gb FAT32 external HDD that contains all my music files. The folder structure on the hdd is very simple, the root contains multiple folders, each folder is an album. Within each folder there are several files - these are the music tracks. These files are a mixture of mp3 and m4a files.

When i connect the hdd to the ps3, the device appears as expected under the music option in the menu. I can select the hdd device and view a complete list of all albums (by name) and all tracks (by name) within each album. I can then select any track (mp3 or m4a) and play the audio without any problems. This functions as expected.

If i then want to copy these albums or tracks to the PS3 hdd, i then encounter problems. The problem is not in the copying of the data, it is how the data appears on the PS3 once copied

Certain albums appear on the PS3 exactly as they appear on the HDD (a folder with the album name and files within the folder of track names), irrelevant of the tracks being mp3 or m4a, this is fine.
However other albums are listed on the PS3 in a folder named 'other'. For example if i copy 3 albums across from the HDD, they can all end up in one folder named 'other'. When i go into the 'other' folder i can see all the track names, but obviously i do not know from which album each track belongs. This is of no use to me if i want to copy multiple albums to the PS3 HDD.

I cannot see any difference in the folder structure of an album that appears on the hDD as expected and an album that appears in the 'other' folder. Can anyone please advise?

Re: help needed copying music files

When music files appear int the folder named "other" it is because there is no album details. If you press triangle you can edit the music file. If you then put the correct album title in the field it will sort out your "other" folder issue. You can input artist, track and album artwork from here as well. Its all to do with the labeling of the file. On the editing screen you may notice that the problem files have all the track information crammed onto one line so if you put the correct info into each field that should solve it for you.

Re: help needed copying music files

Thanks for the reply. I have already tried to edit the album as you suggested however when I click the edit button, press x to continue, i receive a prompt saying that the default icons will be changed. When i select 'yes' i receive the error saying no icons found? I cannot use the down button to edit any other information (track, etc..)

Re: help needed copying music files

The problem is the ps3 does not read the information (title, arist, album, year, track #) tags in an itunes ripped m4a file. This is annoying as even a ps3 ripped 3gp files is using the same audio codec its just the tagging is different.

I wish Sony would support the information tags in an m4a file.

Given both m4a and 3gp files are both using AAC audio codec there maybe a fast conversion utility out there which will convert m4a files to 3gp files with the tags as PS3 expects.
