in mourning: PS3 YLOD will Sony help?

So last night it actually happened to me, i had turned the 40gb PS3 on 20 mins earlier and was on the PC, browsing away, when all of a sudden, beep beep beep, it turned off.

Long story short, it has given itself YLOD and I wasn't even playing a game or anything.

I called Sony at about quarter to 6, was on hold for 30 mins before I hung up and decided to try later, when I did I was told it closed at 6pm lol.

So i called this morning when I woke up, and I have been told its £140 for a replacement! I am shocked, its just over 2 years old and was expecting this to last me a good number of years more. I cant afford that kind of money regularly, for example its gonna take me at least 4 months to get that paid for.

Anyway, I asked to speak to a supervisor but none was available and arranged a callback, I am still awaiting the callback and have spoken 2 times since but still no supervisors are available, they said it will be within 24 hours, so hopefully they will call me tomorrow morning and see if we can sort something out.

I originally got the PS3 wanting the next Final Fantasy game, only to find days before its release, I dont have a console.

Again you cant assum that a supervisor is in on a sunday.. and he cant help you with anything so no point in using your or he`s time.. and I hear you with the melting deal.. but if you do not wonna pay anything its your only option.

Ever worked in a call center? The ones I have worked in obviously have a supervisor during working hours. If they are open they need to be able to deal with the customer complaints.

Anyway, my problem is with the fact that they want to charge me so much for a replacement.

Re: m

Sony will not help unless you pay the £130+. I think it's poor service from Sony as YLOD and Blu-ray drive failures are very common. Yes people can say to pay extended warranty but it's the design flaws of the console. I recently had a Blu-ray drive failure and replaced the blu-ray drive laser myself for £50. I saved £80+ and keep my own system. I don't think Sony would extend warranty now as they left it too long. By offering extended warranty they will also have to refund everyone who paid for repairs. So they end up losing lots of money.

Re: m

You could try taking it back to the shop you got it from, there is a way of doing this due to the sales of goods act. Theres a post on here somewhere about it, someone on here will know more about it if not then google it.
