If I was in his situation I would two settle for a smaller tv with a well respected brand like LG , Samsung our Sony.

They may have changed a bit now but i would do some research. when it comes to LCD tv`s if you go cheap you will notice a definite picture quality drop.
I bought a wharfdale form argos for £350 but the picture was terrible. if you had a game with dark enviroments it would constantly flicker because the contrast ration was so low it could not cope with the graphical enviroment.
I returned that and got a samsung and i think its a safe bet to go with them. Picture is awesome and they are reliable.

Ok , Most people have different standards for example
John has X TV he thinks quality is not to good, Jane has same tv but thinks quality is acceptable or quite good.
Same method as real people we all have different standards. So Its up to you ddue all we can do is advise and give you a honest opinion but at the end of the day the decision is yours to make becuase as long as your happy with the TV then thats all that counts.
Goodluck on getting a tv.

If your getting one from the store see if they have on display so you can judge for yourself.
Thou tweaking a TV's settings can bring the best out of a tv.
maybe google that make and model try and find some reviews from people that have bought it 2 that could help you on your judgement.
