my 40GB phatty packed up. so i saved my blu-ray drive, psu and various other parts from it.

i then set to loooking on ebay at ps3's with broken Blu-Rays.

but yesterday my dads mate told me that before xmas he took his 80GB ps3 to a repair shop and they wanted £80 to repair it as it was the laser. but he just left it there and bought a slim.

and yesterday 6 months on he thought to get it back from them, and he did. he gave it me for free, got it home yesterday, tested it, all was working except the blu-ray.

so i took the circuit boarrd out the broken drive, stuck it in my working drive, wacked the 500GB HDD in and away i go.

Bang Tidy!! i now have a perfect PlayStation 3 80GB Phatty.

so once again i am a happy PlayStationer.

ye ano lol. hes got quite a lot of money so dint bother him leaving it there. he wernt even gunna get it back until he knew i needed a ps3.

So the story about matching the correct BDD to the correct model was just bull then? I.e you had to put a 40GB in another 40GB and a 60GB in a 60GB.
