I think that's probably nearer then truth than most.

To the OP.   Trophies normally reset to zero locally on your machine when you reinstall game data.  If you sign into the network and re-synchronise any trophies that you had earned and synchronised previously will be restored.  If you're missing some that you haven't synchronised then they will be lost.
