Re: my ps3 keeps flashing red

I've got the same problem. As I read, checked for the yellow or orange light too n it does indeed appear for a second before it dies n starts flashing red again. I take it this means it's dead? Can anyone confirm?

Re: my ps3 keeps flashing red

yeah its dead

u have 3 options

1 send it back to sony and pay £130 and they will send u a repaired ps3 known as a refurb with 3 months warranty , ( not recommended as it will eventually brreak again

2 find a local repair shop

3 bite the bullet and buy a new slim with 12 months warranty

Re: my ps3 keeps flashing red

When I have tried this link it does not allow me to deactivate, states must be done from machine. Well I have had 3 die on me and all no way of turning back on to deactivate, is it only possible to do on the console?

Re: my ps3 keeps flashing red

No you definately can deactive them all from that website, I have done it before.  The only catch is you can only do it once every six months.  You can also do it from the website for specific units too if you have them in your possession.

For the thread starter, sorry forgot your handle, I would recommend getting a new slim.  The out of warranty price for repair is quite expensive, and I have paid for one before, and had the console die again on me with a different problem just after the 3 month period.  I also don't recommend going private but only based on personal experience.  I had a friend buy a dead PS3 console off the net and take it in to a private repair person, he fixed it twice and its died twice.

I have an 80GB model and a slim, they are both working fine.  I think probably the slim models are the most stable though, and they use less power (not sure how good the cooling is) so I suspect they probably overheat less too?  I haven't had any trouble with mine.  And the prices on their packages have come down so much it might be worth investing in one rather than forking out for an out of warranty repair.

Re: my ps3 keeps flashing red

Definately YLOD.  I have had that several times on my orginal 60gb PS3.  There are some good videos on youtube on how to do a self fix, especially if your disk is still stuck in the machine.  But as others have said, its not a permanent fix...  Ive done it 3 times this year...

Its simply down to the fact that its a design fault with the original units...

Im looking to upgrade to a slim now as its a pain keep having to strip the unit down, reflow, and then put it all together again...
