need help with YLOD

Hi i was about to fix my ps3 when i found that the CPU and GPU dont look normal as they are not square they are round on the sides so it almost looks like a circle perhaps as it looks like the thermal compound has leaked onto the edges of the CPU and GPU should i just wipe it off with some isopropanol alcohol or is it not fixable? Please help as my ps3 is stripped down ready to be fixed :smileyhappy:

sounds like thermal paste giving you an optical illusion, the chips won't be different shapes, proceed with repair
