Yes there are links to the odd community or gaming news report on people claiming to have issues linked to 3.61 ......I can't find anything quoting or supporting your 1,000,000 users impacted claim...

The facebook link you put up has 26 posts. .. so on that alone only 999,974 short ....

Pretty sure failure rates of that magnitude would get some pretty serious international media attention...

so again I ask ...where is the link that you used to get that figure.....

Feel free to admit you made it up anytime you like and then gracefully accept the fact that despite your console bricking sucks and has made you angry.......it is but  a coincidence :smileyhappy:

Re: original 60gb dead

if it was the firmware, it would happen to every console, not just a select few.
use google
search firmware over heating ps3
you will see every time a firmware comes out it is blamed for overheating, YLOD and bluray failure, what everyone is trying to explain is despite the timing, it really isnt the firmware doing it. i know what its like i have had a ps3 fail on me twice. the fault is in the hardware, and the 60gig fatties are getting really old now and are more likely to start having problems.

The older consoles are prone to getting the YLOD period. As long as those models are still around, when they die people are just going to continue to blame it on a new game or update, as you are doing.

I don't think you're going to find many people here who are going to disagree with this fact. I know the majority of the people from BTG, me included, have had their launch console die on them. It's what they do. Should it happen? No it shouldn't. Should it cost as much as it does to get it repaired? No it shouldn't.

At the end of the day however it happened to you. Welcome to the club. It sucks and a lot of us can appreciate that. You now have to just grin and bare it and move on as there's not a lot else you can do.

Without a mass of people declaring the same thing has happened to them within days of updating to 3.61 it's nothing more than pure coincidence. 31 odd people on a Facebook page isn't exactly a mass of people.

My advice to anyone that still has a functioning launch model is this:

- Buy a Slim

- Transfer everything off your old console onto the Slim

- Sell the old console to someone that doesn't know what a forum is so they can't complain here when it eventually dies.
