I recently got ps3 and have had it for a month now...one of my controllers out of nowhere started to act up and wont work. I hit the ps3 button and the lights start to blink but then just eventually stop and it never sets as 1st or other players. I tried charging it and everything but the fact of the matter is that nothing is working it seems to not be able to read and connect to the console. Even when I press the ps3 button the screen doesnt show. Is there anyway to fix this or is my controller broken?

i have the exact same problem but its been happening since i pluged it into another console......i would like to know a solution as well

You need to pair it back to your console. Connect the controller via the charging cable to your PS3.

If plugging the controller in doesn't work try the following. Turn the controller over and where the sticker is in the top right corner you will see a small hole. Stick a pin in that, it's the reset button.
