Re: so how many PS3s you on ..... and why?

  • I first bought my 40GB fat PlayStation 3 in June 2008 and in November of that year, I upgraded to High Definition by buying myself a new HDTV. My PlayStation 3 problem arose from April 2009 when tried to sort out the 1080p function. I tried a total of 7 HDMI cables which were certified as PS3 compatible. But for reason it wouldn't display, so I got a replacement model from Sony in that same month.

  • My refurb was delivered in April 2009 and lasted until June 2010 when it got the FROD (Flashing Red of Death) I don't know why people call it YLOD cos' that only comes on for a split second (hardly noticeable) until the more prominent flashing red light stays on.

  • My current  console bought in July 2010 is a 250GB slim that's been upgraded to 500GB. It's been in service for 1 yr, 10 months.

I use to think that but thinking about it now it is the only time you see the yellow light when you get that problem. Where the red light is always there. Am looking at my PS3 now it is off but its showing a red light dose that mean is has the Red light of death?

Bingo it is a light colour that is not normaly shown even if it is on for a split second so it better saying YLOD as the Red light could just mean the console of or could be a number of other things.

Below is a Signature

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

You know what... I think you guys are right on this one. Thinking about it, FROD does sound lame. A lot of French people would get confused with the lighting if it was called FROD, but also Frodo would take offence to it.

Re: so how many PS3s you on ..... and why?

To be honest I've lost count, probably the 6th PS3 60gb now in about 4 years..

I got 'continuous play' before it was abused by other and withdrawn so it's been replaced pronto each time luckily.

Every single failure has been a hardware failure.

My latest 60gb (250gb) I've had for about 6 months, it's been the longest lasting PS3 I've had for a while and I think I've finally sussed what was failing. It's the power supplies. When the PS3 sits on standby for a while, weeks - not days, and gets used sparingly, it must be unplugged. Probably weak capcitors in the power supply. But, by switching off on the back it has lasted.

I did contact Sony to let them know the circumstances of the failures and the apparent 'fix' but they didn't want to know.

And don't even mention the games that have been stuck in the PS3 and not returned by Sony. I've had copies of Rage twice go 'missing' thanks to Sony engineers(Yes, I did go out and repurchase after they were not returned - I have unused bonus codes hahaha), they even sent me a token disc only copy of Black ops to replace the stolen Rage disc after I complained bitterly.

60gb US PS3 from 2007 to 2009. Got the YLOD to sold it for parts.

60gb UK PS3 bought at launch.

I then sold this for.....

120gb Slim when they came out.

I then sold that for.....

250gb PS3 due to Game selling them off brand new for £150. Sold old 120gb for just over £100 so I got a new PS3 with bigger hard drive and 12 month warranty.

I then bought a pre owned 80gb for my bedroom.

I then sold that for.....

320gb Red PS3 this is now my current main PS3. Wile my 250gb PS3 is now in my bedroom.

So in total I have had 6 PS3's. Only one of them broke the others where just upgrades.

When you say 'upgrade' what you actually did was 'downgrade' when you sold your 60gb.
