sounds fine to me, its just reading the disk, for me it makes more noise on some than others, but yeah sounds fine!

its just annoying cos you can hear it no matter what it might aswell be a printer lol

Buy a gaming headset. 

All I can hear is footsteps of the soon to be dead...and the games music.

It depends purely on your Price bracket

PX21 turtle beach wired (cheap)

Gioteck Ex-05 wired or wireless (cheapish)

Logitech 540 (not so cheap but has multi audio input for more than just PS3) 

Trittion ax pro 5.1 not wireless ( Top of the range. With a price to match)

Turtle beach PX5 wireless ( again top features means high price)

There is another one but its name sucks so badly, I never remember it.

If your up for importing cheaper non EU models theres...

Sony stereo 2.0 wireless PS3 headset .

If you can wait a few months you may be better off. Vocal feed back emulation

(feeds your own voice back into the head set to stop you increasing your own voice volume)

was added but badly... it should disable when you mute the mic, currently on PS3s it does not.

I think you for got to audio to that video. I can't here anything.

Just turned my volume up right to the max and I can here a the disk spinning a little bit is that what you are hearing? If so it is normal.

That's exactly what it is, A PS3 disguised as a Printer, mine sounds like yours, but the console sounds worser playing DVDs than games. Sony's elusion of it being quieter, must of been proven against deaf people.  I see no sign of sound being improved to that of the fat PS3 consoles.

Youtube has a volume controll on the left. MAKE sure you have not turned it down.

The cusor keys on PC will controll the volume now some times.
