As for the slims they suffer from the same problem as all the rest but if I were you I would pick a slim up over a refurb or even another 60gig.

I went through three systems since launch day two 60gigs I've had the 80gig now for three years and never had a problem with it.

Really ? I think the slims are (so far) much more reliable than the old phat 60gb models ?

Re: what do you recomend, im gutted.

theres a way to get ur game out of the ps3, i tried this with my old ps3 that ylod, which had cod stuck in it.

First turn the ps3 off with the switch at the back of the ps3.

Then put hold the eject switch.

while keeping hold of the eject switch, flick the switch back on at the back of the ps3 to turn the power on,

by holding the eject switch and flicking the switch bk on, the ps3 boots up long enough 4 the disk to eject.

The fans will be running very fast and will sound like a hoover.

hope this helps!

Their not their the same machine only difference is the removal of the card reader which allows more cool air to pass through the unit other than that they are exactly the same apart from the casing.

Re: what do you recomend, im gutted.

result. sony have just agreed to replace my ps3 free of charge, allthough it will be a refurb and will break down again in a few months its still better than paying £130 or having to buy a new one. ive had this refurb since may so its well out of the 3 month warranty, nice one sony, thanks very much. ill have to wait 6 weeks to get fifa 12 back though. all in all im very happy.

Re: what do you recomend, im gutted.

"Take the disc out yourself as from my personal experience with Sony I once had a YLOD with a game stuck in it and whilst I was given a new system as a replacement I never got the game disc back and that was quiet a few years ago, even after e-mail contact , phone calls etc"

Definitely do this, quite a few people have not had games returned from Sony, myself included.

Re: what do you recomend, im gutted.

I got my game back when I first got the YLOD (several years ago now), I told them about it when I called the Cont Play number and they said it would take upto 6 weeks, I got LBP back in just over 5 so all in all wasn't bothered about the time...

You need to make yourself a pain if you don't get it as I read a year or two ago that someone was sent a replacement game when they didn't get theirs back :smileyhappy:

I am sure the slims have different GPU/CPU's (not techinical sorry) either that or they work differently to generate less heat in the slims.... :smileyhappy: I think this confirms what I am trying to say :smileyvery-happy: "To date, the PS3 has had several component revisions which serve to reduce power consumption. This in turn results in production savings, lower heat production, lower cooling requirements and quieter running. Since launch, the Cell processor has shrunk from 90 nm to 45 nm. The RSX GPU has also seen reduction in size over periodic revisions of the PS3. Major improvements were introduced with the PS3 Slim. It utilized a 45 nm Cell which resulted in a 34% reduction in power consumption over the previous 65 nm Cell model;[6] the latest Slim model further decreases power consumption with the move to a 40 nm RSX."

Re: what do you recomend, im gutted.

Id say thats a big mistake going through sony!

Ok you may not have the cash to buy a new slim but id say get this refurb, as you have done well to get it for free, when my 60GB dies i tired for nearly an hour to get one for free. Once you have the refurb find the best play place to trade in for store credit to buy a new slim or cash.

as for the game, try and get it out yourself, for me if it were an older game i wouldnt bother, but fifa 12, i couldnt wait 6 weeks, if nto longer. Search for the hairdryer trick on you tube, this really does work, it worked for me, i did have to try it twice tho.

When mine died, i luckly had a brand new slim in the bedroom, so didnt need a refurb straight away + didnt want to spend £130. Once i got it working with the hair dryer trick left it a couple of week, and tested it again, still worked so took it to CEX and got £100 cash
