Which is better a story based in reality (in today’s world) or a story that is based on future/past concepts of dystopian world?

Surely that depends on the actual story, characterisation, atmosphere and depth? It's all very well having an interesting concept, but if you don't explore it and adapt it for a game then it's useless. Equally, just because a game is based in a modern day, "realistic" world, it doesn't mean the story cannot be just as, or more, interesting as something based in a world where teddy bears kill each other with toasters.

Re: whats better

Games based in alternate reality can have more flexibilities. They need not bow to existing religions/races/countries. If a game is done well, and not made too 'fantastic', the results can be amazing.
I liked Bayonetta, where her native world of demons and angels rarely impinged on the 'real' world of the mortals, yet both shared the same physical streets and buildings, and the mortals were only vaguely aware of something 'odd'.
This applies to literature as well as gaming. The same rules apply.
