Re: 1080p for 32" - Is it needed?

People do say you can't see the difference under 40", I have a 26" 720p HDTV but it looks a whole lot better on my 22" 1080p panel.

Re: 1080p for 32" - Is it needed?

My take on it is that its just marketing If theres more pixels, more detail. Just need to sit abit closer I would've thought as the pixels are more compacted?

Re: 1080p for 32" - Is it needed?

hmm, that 32" wd400 tv looks intresting - the pdf file says it uses an XMB menu

Yes it uses the same menu as the PS3 ;-) the XrossMediaBar

It's awesome

As for it being an 8 bit panel - means it doesnt reproduce as many colours but - 1. how mnay 32"s are 10bit? and also 10bit - many of the colours - its arguable- the human eye cant even make alot of them out!

as for live colour - yeah ok so that would be a good feature to have but its still BRAVIA engine 2 which give smuch much better black reproductions and sharpness than anything ive seen in a while!

Re: 1080p for 32" - Is it needed?

I have a Philips 32" PFL5522D.

It says it has a resolution of 1366x768p.
But then for video formats it says 1920x1080p.
When i use the PS3 it says output display at 1080p.
So why does it says 1366x768p for resolution
Can anyone help?

Re: 1080p for 32" - Is it needed?

My opinion formed by different topics is that it depends on the usual distance between you and your TV rather than dimensions (1080p or 720p).

The difference of 1080p and 720 could be seen only if you sit like 1.5m in front of your TV. (it is hard if you like to look films from the bed as me)

This is all about likeness to the big cinema screen. To feel yourself at home like at cinema you have to buy TV ~40" if you have <3m distance to TV, and if you have 3m or more you should better buy 50".

You should also consider that 720p is little bit cheaper :smileywink:

Also then I make my own desicion I have to choose between plasma and lcd and I have noticed that plasma has a better colors, contrast and don't have any troubles with timing at all (so it is always fast). But plasma's tv started after 40" and lcd are usually goes beyond 40".

So my choise  was Pioneer 40" plasma, which is able to support either 1080p or 720p signal, but nativly only HDReady TVset.

This choise based on fact that Pioneer hold the best TV award in 2007 (for the same model but 50" in size to be honest)

Sorry for such a lot of words. Hope it helps.

Re: 1080p for 32" - Is it needed?

This probably means that it accepts 1080p content but scales it down

1366 x 768 would be for your PC resolution

I have a 32" with 1080p, and it doesn't make that much of a difference. Best for 40" really.

Re: 1080p for 32" - Is it needed?

you should also think about the refresh rate, i have a 32inch philips and it leaves tracers on fast moving subjects that can be bloody annoying to say the least!

Your TV can accept 1080p signal, but will scale it to fit the TV, my Philips in the kitchen does the same.

Oh, and 1080p Toshiba 32" is £550 on Play.com

The 37" is only £50 so would be worth investing in.

Seem like good TV's but at quite a cheap price.
