Sorry mate, it wont fit.  The drive is 12.5mm high, the compatible drive for a PS3 has to be 9.5mm high.  Biggest you can get at the moment that will fit is 500GB.

Re: 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive

This is an Internal HD thats the whole point of my post , if i wanted an external drive i could have gotten something larger but it would by an extra appendage lol ,

so yeah this WD drive is internal and its 1TB , i think its going for around £160

Re: 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive

plus why is it , whenever you put a HD into either a pc , ps3 or whatever , it never ends up being the same amount as stated , for instance if you put in a 500GB HD itll actaully be around 470GB or something

always wondered that

Re: 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive

the 1TB drives are slightly thicker then smaller drives if you got the new slim ps3 you may be ok as the slots where the drives fit in to have more room. the 1TB drive is compatible but you may not have the room to fit it in the ps3 slot. most people go for the WD 320gig 2.5.

Re: 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive

The confusion over hard drive sizes come from the manufacturers saying one thing and the operating system saying another. Although most manufacturers of hard disks and define 1 gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes, the computer operating systems usually calculate a gigabyte by dividing the bytes (whether it is disk capacity, file size, or system RAM) by 1,073,741,824.

This distinction is a cause of confusion, especially for people from a non-technical background, as a hard disk with a manufacturer rated capacity of 500 gigabytes may have its capacity reported by the operating system as only 465 GB, depending on the type of report. So although the HDD is  advertised as having 500 GB HD its only 465 GB.

Re: 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive

thats because the software counts in binary and the number on the label is in decimal number system.
