Was there an update to PS3 60Gb model which made it 3D compatible? I've a 160Gb model which was bought purely as a 3D player downstairs (with the gaming 60Gb model PS3 upstairs) but when the PS4 comes out I'll then have to choose which model to use as a blu-ray player, I love playing my old PS2 games (especially Castlevania) so I'd prefer to keep the 60Gb model, but if no 3D movie playback then it'd have to be the newer model.
Hopefully Sony will release a backwards compatible version of the PS4 which would also solve my dilemma.
Thanks for all replies.

All PS3s run the same firmware No matter what Hardware it is.
All 3D BD were enabled to play on ALL PS3s after the last update that added the remaining JAVA support libraries for 3D BD.
The Fat PS3s HDMI chip Can't Bit stream BD HD audio unlike the Slims panasonic HDMI chip. So you are required to Use PCM audio on your FAT PS3.
PCM audio requires less work than DTS MA or DolbyTrueHD audio.
Thats the only difference in BD use.
Bugger all lost seeing you have SACD support, 4 USB ports, Memory card reader, PS2 software and hardware emulation, better made BD drive mechanics, Component 1080p video out on BD ( Removed from new slims)...

Good to see your question has already been answered.
As a fellow 60gb owner I thought you might be interested to know that I managed to upgrade my own PS3 60gb HDD with a 650gb WD Scorpion Blue HDD. I understand that this size of drive has the largest that can be made that will fit inside our machine. So, if you decide to go down tis route too, don't be tempted to get a similar device that holds, say, 1Tb. It be greater than 9mm thick (more like 12mm) to incorparate the necesssary extra platter to accomodate the extra data.
This has really extended the life of my PS 3 because the 60gb original HDD was nearly full up after about three years of buying games and stuff.

My 60gb PS3 keeps on having hardware faults and needs to be replaced, I have continuous play.
I've had 3 or 4 this year alone and the console does not get hammered at all, on it's end, clean environment clear air etc
Any one else having the same problems?

On a quick note about the original 60GB PS3, can't find the owners manual anywhere on the support sections for this model (CECHC03). Any ideas? I just want to know what the folder a video file should be in the folder tree on the SD card.

Same lay out for all devices connected to PS3.
Root folder/Device name folder
..............VIDEO folder
.......................... Video files
Standard Fat 32 Mass storage layout still applies to Memory cards. (memory sticks are just Flash memory cards with USB plug)
Mobiles phones tryed to mess it up buy using MOVIES as the Folder.
When the PS3 copies Video files back It will create the Folder called VIDEO every time any way if it does not exsist all ready...
You can still Use the triangle button and display all. instead of X if you miss place the file.
More important is that you Select the correct filter on PS3 BEFORE you select memory card underneath them first.
