2 Replies 10,101 Views Created 23-02-2012

If yours not working then theres a easy fix.

This applies to Windows Vista, Media Player 11 and Windows Firewall. Other versions may be similar instructions.

1. Go to Network and Sharing Centre

2. Press Media Sharing and press Change

3. Press How does sharing change firewall settings

4. In Help and Support scroll down to the port numbers.

5. Open Windows Firewall. (NOT Windows Firewall with advanced security)

6. Click Allow a program through Windows Firewall

7. Click on Add Port

8. Name it something like PS3 Media Sharing or WMA Sharing

9. Enter the port number listed in Help and choose TCP or UDP (one port per adding)

10. If Help says Local Subnet only follow steps 10x or if it says all subnets then skip 10x

10a. Click on change scope

10b. Click on My Network Only

10c. Press OK

11. Press OK

12. Press Apply

13. Check your PS3

14.  If it still doesnt show follow below

15. Add ports for others until it appears on PS3 (if it says port already added then ignore adding the port for that)

16. Should now work on your PS3

CAUTION!!! DO NOT DISABLE THE FIREWALL. DOING SO WILL HARM YOUR COMPUTER.

I don't mean to be be critical but this is a really complex and bad way to do it. The easiest and more-likely-to-work-way to get media sharing working again would be to disable media sharing, reboot, enable media sharing (by going to Network and Sharing Center, expand the Media Sharing section under Sharing and Discovery, and click Change. Tick “Share my media” and then OK. This will automatically configure your Vista PC for media sharing again.

Notes:

-Your network must be set as a private (Home or Work) in order for this to work.

-3rd party firewalls may require additional configuration.
