Hi peeps. This is my first forum post. I was wondering if there has been any info on whether or not Sony are going to update the PS3 firmware to support MKV format as from what I've heard and seen the MKV format is far superior in quality and sound compared to AVI. Also, when are we PS3 owners going to be able to stream music from a P.C. while we are playing games like you can do with the 360? C'mon Sony, we want custom soundtracks in our games.

People have been requesting for mkv for a while, if they do add it I wouldnt expect it soon, took them long enough to add DivX support

as i stated on another post their is a streaming software that streams mkv files to the ps3 and transcodes them at the same time!

Yup idt2 you did put up another post. It wasn't very helpful though considering you don't actually name the program you use to transcode MKV to play on a PS3.

Google MKV2VOB. Very useful little app. Although I'm with you: It would be easier if Sony just added MKV support (along with FLAC )

Thanks for the info chimp and spanky. The converting worked a treat. It was done in a matter of minutes. However, when I stream the file from my P.C. to my PS3 I only get a 3 sec clip if it's an MP4, 6 sec clip if it's MPEG-2 and 9 sec clip if it's an AVI. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Try tsmuxer in google its very quick and converts .MKV to .M2TS which can be played on the ps3
