Make the Playstation 3 a 'Divx Plus HD' device!

Hello,

As Loyal Playstation Customer I enjoy the playstation in every aspect. Games in High Definition, as Photographer I enjoy the option to have 3D and Panoramic photographs on my PS3 and to organise my photographs in general. This why listening to my playlist and at the end of the day aa good blu ray movie.

However, one thing bothers me. Why is the DivX support not yet updated? When I wish to set an .mkv on my playstation 3, it simply won't play, and that because the Playstation 3 is not a DivX Plus HD certified product.

What does DivX Plus HD do?

This enables us to view our own movies in the popular high quality format x264 and .mkv without converting them to the less quality MPEG2 codec. This should be a must for anyone who loves movies, wether homemade or others.

I believe this is the missing link and needs an update quickly.

With this topic I'd like to get as much people to stand by my side and try to get too sony for this.

If you think the Playstation 3 should be certified with the DivX Plus HD then leave your vote here.

Sincerely yours,

Caltson

sony wont touch it

What about photographers and cinematographers like myself? I use some of the extensions as mentioned above, but must do a large process to convert them first before getting them on my PS3.

I think Sony should care about those persons.

[ Edited ]

ufortunatley for all the law abiding people like yourself the pirates spoil it for u and others

its common knowledge that blurays etc are coded mainley in mkv

it is something that will never b allowed as sony has its on movie studio and if they allow the format to work on their system then they are going to lose out on bluray sales etc

like i said it is unfortunate but it wont ever be allowed by sony on the ps3

Re: Make the Playstation 3 a 'Divx Plus HD' device!

Divx plus is also uses less

It only supports

H264 video

And

AAC Audio - NOT AC3, NOT DTS.

All of which is all ready supported in fixed standards containers

MP4. M4V. TS. and M2TS.

Im sure this has been mentioned before and we got a response from Sony themselves.

it went something like this:

Apparently, The MKV format is an un-supported format, meaning, if sony were to use it they have no goto person to contact to get things sorted if things go wrong.

I think one of the major deciding factors is liabilty.  I remember at the time they said that using the MKV format is possible, but since there are no contracts to sign for its use it makes it hard to implement.  Unfortuantely, since every large corp seems to be suing each other I can fully understand a company being hesitent to use something thats free and open, only to be hit with a massive patent infringment down the line, or worse still, the companies rivals buy the rights to the format and they are left with paying to continue to use it or dump the feature....and we all know how many tears fall when a feature is removed
