Netflix Auto-Off?

Hi, on my PS3 Slim (with the latest updates), I have a Netflix account, which I have used a lot frequently. I find myself in late nights dozing off whilst watching my favorite TV shows and movies. Now, I'm pretty sure everyone knows that leaving your PS3 on all night can take a toll on your electric bill, so I was wondering if there is a way to have the PS3 turn off after a few hours of inactivity while on Netflix? I have been searching for an answer for days, but to no avail. Does anyone have a definite way of how to use this function?

Re: Netflix Auto-Off?

Thank you for your help, GraphiteGB. I have adjusted the settings, according to how you have described them, but one problem lies in the actual app itself. When 3 hours (the corresponding time I had set for Netflix) passes, a pop-up window will show up asking, "Are you done watching (TV show/movie)?". I let the window sit there for a half hour, but the system did not commence its scheduled auto-shut down. Is there any explanation for this? Thank you again for your extended help. I hope this post will help others in the future, too.

Its not there in netflix app to shut the app Down its there to confirm you are Watching the TV series still.

All TV shows are configed to run back to back episodes with auto play by default. Episode 1 to the very end of the final series.

This 3Hr check in netflix Stops the service from streaming all episodes, if you are not there or did not pause the show. This saves them wasting Bandwidth with auto play.

Its not there for your usage it is purely for netflix to save money and still offer the auto play service.

Re: Netflix Auto-Off?

I forever fall asleep when running Netflix/Lovefilm at night. What I do in any case, is set the timer to 1 hour with no exceptions. This way if I do fall asleep it will shut itself down without being left too long. If still awake a message appears after 50 minutes to warn you that shut down is imminent and turning the controller on or giving it a little flick is enough to reset the timer.

I have always figured if you're not near the console for over an hour there's no point in leaving it on anyway.

Thank you to both GraphiteGB and Loonytoon1982 for both of your help. After setting my timer to 1 hour (as Loonytoon1982 had recommended) on Video/TV/Music (as GraphiteGB had mentioned), I have discovered that the actual PS3 itself gives you a warning that it will shut off in like 5-10 minutes. The Netflix message that had confused me was actually something that the company does to ensure that you are continuously viewing their library without leaving the room. It is NOT a warning that the actual PS3 system is turning off. When Sony's familiar grayish box appears in the corner of your screen, it will most likely be telling you that the system is going to turn off. Don't be confused with the Netflix warning like I was. I can't even stress how aggravating it was to find an answer until just recently with the help of the PlayStation forum. Thank you all one again, and happy gaming! :smileyhappy:
