I can't say it bothers me in the slightest and I'll bet it is covered in the terms somewhere when you accepted FW4.0.

hey hey

they havent installed anything.

the netflix icon is a advert/nag/sponsered placeholder. the download is user prompted (that I've read so far)

i'm pretty sure that the T&C will read somewhere that sony are able to install anythng they wish to your console in the form of a firmware update (silent or otherwise) or directly adding new icons etc to the XMB

To be fair, it is a bit of a catch 22. Put the icons there and for people who don't use them it just adds unwanted clutter. Don't put the icons there though and people may never know of the services available.

Personally I wouldn't have a problem with them if we could manually remove them from the xmb, which seems like a fair compromise to me at least.

It's not installed on your PS3, it's just the icon. However, if you do want to download and install Netflix onto your PS3, simply click on the icon and it will take you through the process.
It's kinda like the situation with the PlayStation Home icon, where it's always there, but doesn't necessarily mean you have it installed on your system.

Well considering Sony own the firmware, and you've already agreed to their T&C's when you made your account they can do pretty much anything they want with it.

It still plays games doesn't it? Its only a little icon linking you to the application that you dont have to even download, just delete it :|

Most importantly, no one has forced you to sign up to the service either so it hasn't cost you a pretty penny has it?

sony can put what apps they like on there.... its the same with any console.

Would like some ability to hide/delete things we don't use though.... i don't use ps home for example (and never will) so it would be nice to get rid of the icon, just to make the xmb i bit tidier for me.

In fairness though, as people have said it is not that big a deal, i mean its not like it affects gameplay or anything.

Sony have put the add on the PS3 as netflix pays them to do so.

Klick the add and you download the App.

The OS on your PS3 is owned by sony and they can put what ever they want on it and if Netflix pay them to do so gives Sony a bigger insentive to make it a add.

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

What gets me is why cant we group content with TV/Video services like we can with games

I mean WTH is the My Channels box for? Putting everything inside there would be a lot more pleasing to the eye.

The gallery icon.

Lovefilm

All the my channels services.

life with Playstation

Trophies

You downloaded the firmware. you agreed to have the icons.

But you hardly ever see them as the PS3 will boot and sit on the GAME folder or BD...

My channels is the optional content that is not an advert.

Like for people who choose to ignore Vidzone, CH4 and MUBI :smileysurprised: They will only have 4 items, 2 adverts and 2 optional TV book marks in the UK.

Dont worry it will appear in time if your in the right region, the service isn't up yet anyway and all you can do is register an email address to be told when its available.

You would of though they would of had the service up and running ready..
