Hi I made a thread about using my ps3 to playback 3d films, i was told it will aslong as it's updated etc.

Updated it today and got ghostrider 2 3d & 2d blu ray, brought a monster 15.8gbps HDMI compatible with 3d. Now I set up the dvd in 3d mode and it will say something along the lines of this ' 3d experience a 3d enabled tv and player are required' The tv is an active samsung pdp490.

I spoke to samsung and they have emailed me the new firmware to try, but I have to wait until my partners home to pinch her usb stick.  They couldn't offer any advise other than try that if not it's a problem with the ps3 or dvd.

I read on samsungs website that the mode you need it on can be told by the image displayed when the televisions in normal viewing mode i.e. two images side by side - sidebyside mode will correct it into 3D and likewise with top and bottom mode, but when in normal viewing mode the picture is fine but 2d, if you set it to any of the 3d modes (apart from 2d-3d upscale of course) the picture is heavily distorted but I was able to see more of a 3d image.

Has anyone else expirienced any issues like this my partner is going to pick up happy feet 2 to try out this evening.

Issue solved I believe, for anyone else expiriencing issues the same, the playstation may need to be set up to the new display so it knows that the new 3d television can display 3d images! 

Settings>Display then scroll right and press X I believe, it'll then auto setup and retune to your new tv set up!

I tried that too, but somehow my my tv says "mode not supported". Why 1080p won't work in this tv?

"I bought Samsung UE46ES8005 3D Smart-tv and i have problems watching 3D movies via PS3.

If i choose 1080p in Video output settings, tv screen goes black and says mode not supported.

And if im trying to watch 3D movies it says this:

I have the newest updates on ps3 and my tv, i've also installed that new firmware update.

Have you ran an automatic set-up from the display settings? It's needed for 3DTV's, manually selecting options results in it not detecting the 3D display.
