PS3 Media server-PS3 not being found and vice-versa

Hi there,

I have been having a problem with my PS3. The problem is that no matter what media server program I try none of them work. My PS3 won't find my PC and vice-versa. I am able to ping my PS3 so it is in my network and should be working. I have been googling for a few hours and haven't managed to find anything. At the moment I am trying to get it working with PS3 Media Server but it says that no PS3 has been found. Other programs I have tried are: Tversity, WMP 11 and Simple Center all have had the same problem.

Have you enabled "media server" on the ps3?
Is your firewall blocking the service on your pc?
These are the usual culprits.
Check them, and report back.

Ok, time to look at your router...

Wired or wireless?

Internal firewall in your rooter?

Have you opened ports or setup a dmz?

Read through THIS section on your PS3MS,

Look for.......

Can't do this

Can't do that.

If it says can't reserve port 5001 or can't find this encoder or can't reserve IP number. Then yourll have to fixem. which means messing with router and OS gateway menus normaly

Re: PS3 Media server-PS3 not being found and vice-versa

I have a wireless n belkin router which is up to date. I have turned off all firewalls on my router and dont know how to check for a dmz but I am pretty certain that I don't have that configuration. Cheers

DMZ only works from Internet to Local IP has no effect on LAN networks. LAN Firewalls are normaly OS software based per equipment.

DMZ also called Open/ Public IP address buy non Standards obeying Companies that wont change there ways..

What OS are you using W7, vista, XP, Any anti malware or Spy ware software running that could kill local traffic.

Re: PS3 Media server-PS3 not being found and vice-versa

I kept running into this problem but solved it by going into general setting tab  forcing network card ie: selecting the net work card on pc.

Then under ip filter input your ps3 ip  & save then close Pms & load it up again it should pick your ps3 up then.
