PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

I know Playstation would like to make a profit by re-selling ps2 games but I honestly think its enough now there's a countless number of PS2 classics; Kingdom hearts 1 & 2, Metal Gear Solid  2 & 3, Gran Turismo 4, God Hand (Yes I know it's on PSN... but that's not the point) the list could go on  and on I just want Playstation to consider doing this.

The original 60GB EU PS3 USED software and hardware emulation ......... I had it as a release day owner...

IT WAS CRAP, GARBAGE, RUBBISH, JUNK.

To high failure rate on games. To many bugs. game saves from the PS2 need Specific expenesive addon to be transfered to PS3. Zoomed SD resolution graphics on HDTV suck.

SDTV removed jaggies due to the design of the CRT to blur colours together, LCD TV shows up how bad SD graphics realy were.

These are the reasons why I think Sony has to be spreading the rumours that the PS4 won't have BC ever allready.

(And that they will be using AMD X86 chipsets, means its even more unlikely to run PS3 software)

If you want PS2 games, get a PS2 and a SDTV.

Set it up in another room and youll be better of for it.

Software emulation is so bad PS Vita was launched with out it for PS1 titles.

Playstation certified devices have not had there promised PS1 or PS2 titles released as the emulator/converter called playstation suite has failed to get out of beta.

Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

To echo what Graphite say's above you are better off using a PS2 for PS2 games.

I have both connected to my Samsung tv with the PS2 running via RGB scart rather than the poor supplied AV cables PS3 via HDMI.

I even have my PSP connected occasionally aswell via component cable i even found PSone games run better on PS2 than PS3.

I wish they would just ban BC and use said console for its own games!

These videos give many reasons why it should be restored

oh... after few minutes into first video, i didn't bother watch further. "if it's not gonna cost you anything" blabla.. as i understand bc was dropped to reduce the price of console. and the guy asks "why be against it if it's not gonna cost you anything?"

edit: second video: same guy on same topic = instant close.

Yeah I just checked some of that guy's YouTube vids and he rants about the PS3 endlessly. Dedicated videos about YLOD. And he doesn't make videos to rant about any other faulty console *cough* *cough* Xbox 360.

It would be good if the PS3 had perfect backwards compatibility, but I don't think it was that simple. I think when the PS3 was desgined, it was too different to the PS2 and PS1, so it was probably a struggle to have compatibility with older software. They still tried to make it happen with the 60GB model but like GraphiteGB said, it was terrible. Then they completely cut off backwards compatibility with the newer models to drive down manufacturing costs.

I think it's too late now for them to consider it again, but at least they're making PS2 games possible on PS3 with HD collections.

Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

For a bit of nostalgia, I recently hooked up my old PS2 to a small CRT in my garage. Every now and then I might fire up the original Tomb Raider or Resident Evil. That is probably the best way to go with the old classics :smileyhappy:

Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

I mean all of the hardware is intact, as if it could emulate PS2 games such as Max Payne from the PS Store surely we should be able to run our disc's as it would be pointless to pay once again for games we own and love.
