Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

[ Edited ]

Its not hardware.

Its running a buggy Software emulator that is unable to emulate the connection to the PS3 NIC for example. It also Turns wired DSs off to standby, when its not supposed too. This makes Simulation games like Atrain and simcity unplayable as the Games freeze untill the controller is reused...You are required to let these titles run by themselves thats part of the gameplay.

No PS2 multiplayer and if ofline multi player is unstable that also will be removed.

The original Software & Hardware emulator ran the NIC for online multiplayer as well on 60 GB PS3 you could visit central station on a 60GB PS3.

Titles on that software emulator, will have been bug tested to avoid crashing and will have been RE-CODED for higher compliance.

They are not the original DVD PS2 versions...

Even FF8, A PS1 title went though this testing to get on the PSN store.

This title was debugged specificly because the PS1 EU title versions FAILS to run even on the PS2 and PS3 emulator of PS1, (Ive got the original CDs this title does not work.)

EU Version of PS1 and PS2 games continue to fail to run via software emulation this has resulted in a US version being released on EU. Which was a BREACH of SCE own rules about Region coding requirements for EU.

SCE changed those T&C and now. If the only version of the PS2 game that runs is JPN version you get the game with out any English translation.

Each a game has the emulation ALTERED to get it to run. You won't ever be able to put the PS2 DVD in and play, the games need testing.

Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

I think it's a good idea as I dont (like many!) have a ps1 or 2 so we can now play them

Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

i felt a litle cheated by sony that the most of the ps3 arnt backwards compatible, but i guess they just wanna make more money out of ps2 games by putting them on the store instead, its a shame the selection is so small.

Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

I don't see why we can't play ps2 games on a ps3 ya there are some you can download, but there not many if Xbox can do it why not play station, because I just want to beable to play time splitters again

Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

For me and the few ps2 games I choose to play on the ps3, I've been relatively lucky that they've been good emulations. But yeah, if I really wanted to play my favourites, I'd break out my ps2 at the cost of the upscaling on my hd tv. That, and a majority of hours of saves are all on the ol' ps2 memory cards, and i can't be assed replaying again on the ps3 on a shoddy emulator.

Re: PS3 making a firmware to support PS2 Games

Just got rid of my old ps2.:Shame:

Quite happy with the HD classic collections coming out at the minute. imo its the best way to play them.

Just completed shadow of the colossus for the first time. excellent. How they did that on a ps2 is beyond me.

I would love to see the project zero series in hd as well, but thats another story.

PS2 Games with hd graphics and trophy support? no competition.

old games are like most things that we remember with fondness....They're never actually that good.

Loved elite on the MSX back in the day. Emulated my old computer on my PC, booted up the elite disc image and played it for all of two minutes. I was so disapointed.

I couldn't believe I spent most of my teenage years playing that game.....sad.
