Re: PlayTV update bug?

Guys,

For all those who are still experiencing crashing issues with PlayTV can you please provide some information to help get the problem solved quicker.

  • Which PS3 are you using, the "large" or "slim" model?
  • What was the install order (e.g. Disk then patch 2.02, then store download?)
  • Any setup changes you made from the default?
  • Which TV region you are viewing? Identifiable easily by ITV local news, e.g. London, Meridien, etc. (Or your town/city)
  • A list of recording (series, single) that you had set at the time of the crash
Any information you can give us would be a great help.

Re: PlayTV update bug?

  • Large Model
  • Store download then patch.
  • Default settings accepted first time around, second time followed instructions as per LDS30COMP's recommendation (disabling enhanced EPG and Maintenance Schedule).  Both methods resulted in crash
  • Meridian - Folkestone, Kent
  • Series links included Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights on ITV4, The Event on Ch4, Single Recordings included Employee of the Month Movie

To be honest, based on how badly the Series Link works and how much hassle I've had due to these glitches, I'm looking for a refund of what I paid for the update.  I don't care is you remove all the functionality from my account as it doesn't work properly anyway.  Happy to go back to the stable version that was being used before the latest update.

•Large model
.•Disk then patches as released (ending in 2.02), then paid store download for series link unlock (chat and stats are totally useless)
.•Can't think of any setup changes per se
.•Leeds, West Yorkshire
.•Was set to record some christmas programming including QI, Top Gear, Graham Norton.
.
Just to add that I was appalled that new functionality was added without providing any documentation on how to use it. Especially with regards to series link. Then the crashes started.

PS3 Fat, was 60gb, uprated to 500gb

Originally a disc install (1.0). Early adopter. Saw update msg (for 2.02), downloaded that, then went back to store to download previously paid for update for series link etc.  Crashed after a couple of weeks. However, so had 2.01previously, I had hoped 2.02 was the fix for that! Erased all trace of PlayTV, reinstalled from disc to 1.0, uploaded 2.02. After several crashes given up and now running only on 1.0. Not happy!

Initially left defaults alone, signed up to enhanced TVTV EPG and chat. Subsequently tried to turn off maintenance option (it kept defaulting back on). Also ignored chat and enhanced EPG. All variations crashed. Not happy!

Meridian...Between Folkestone and Ashford.

Various recording combinations over various reinstalls. Used series link, recorded single programs and recorded parts of a series as single program. I think I always had a series link on the go when crashed. Not happy!

What about rewinding to the last solid version of 1x? At least we get the uprated picture quality and a couple of other improvements? 2.x is horrible at the moment.

Further info...Err, did I mention I am not happy? (Nor any of the other dwarves!)

Model Large: 40gb model upgraded to 320gb.

Install order: Disk, Upgrade to 2.02, Patch from Store
Options set: Enhansed EPG tvtv and Scheduled Maintenance. Also switched these off and it still happened.
Location: Manchester
Recordings: Loads of recordings, too many to list. Some examples: The Event, Click, Gadget Show, Simpsons, Top Gear etc. Some using series link and some just set to record normally.

Cambridge Studios better make haste or at least revert back to a previous release soon. I've been contacted by The Register who are going to follow up this problem. They've been giving Sony plenty of time to allow for comments but as in the words of the email "So far, all they've come up with is pretty much a corporate shrug." Doesn't surprise me either! Great news though guys!

Was an original disc install with all updates until crashed.

When it crashed on me about a week or so before xmas it had approx. 45gb of recordings. Mine crashed with no warning or indication it was going to do it and was not recording at the time. I vaguely remember updating for a second time the night before because it told me to whilst watching TV which I did and thought nothing more about it. The next day bang, couldn't get back in until my second attempt at reinstalling. I haven't installed the tvtv EPG as have no interest in it or the chat features, but have still installed the series link. Have also disabled the maintenance but have to disable it every night as it turns back on at start up again!

Installation order:

Removed all traces of PlayTV (3 files)

1. Re-installed from the original disc

2. Visited the PSN store and downloaded the paid for update again

3. Start up PlayTV and proceed to update to 2.02

4. Retune and refused the 'enhanced' EPG

5. In the settings disabled the maintenance option.

6. Returned all my other settings to my preferred options eg. live buffer, background recording etc.

TV Region: London

My Model: PS3 Slim

HDD size: original 250gb

Software: PlayTV 2.02 with the purchased series link

Recordings: included series linked and single recordings

Re: PlayTV update bug?

Slim model (250gb expanded to 500gb).

Disk, then 2.01, then store upgrade, then 2.02 automatically downloaded via PS+.

Settings = maintenance at 10am, enhanced programme guide, live tv buffer, background recording.

West Midlands area (used to be Central / Carlton).

Series Link = Match Of The Day, Top Gear, Have I Got News, QI, American Dad.

One-off recordings = none that I can remember.

Ps3 slim 320 gb. Disc install-2.02 update-store patch. With enhanced EPG and disabled maintenance(keeps coming back on?) Using series link and individual recording. I am currently not using enhanced EPG and I am not using series link. I am also going to the menu on startup rather than straight to TV. Since using the current settings I have gone nearly 2 weeks without crashing(fingers crossed). I am also transfering all recordings to XMB. TV Region Meridian.

Re: PlayTV update bug?

I suggest useing this email for Sony scee_gb@mailuk.custhelp.com I always seem to get a reply.

I think it would actually be better sending the email to Watchdog and cc'ing Sony........

@undrop.......Mine worked just over 2 weeks following the last reinstall..... so do not open the champagne yet!

Re: PlayTV update bug?

@ LordRoss..... welcome.... it is nice to see someone taking an interest in our issues.

My system:
PS3 Slim with 500gb WD HDD upgrade.
PlayTV 2.02 with series link

Had 4 system failings so far.

At first mine was fine and hang free appart from the system continously rescheduling recordings and reporting errors saying that it was possibly down to play games or dvd's. I had the correct settings so I knew it wasn't a conflict.

My first crash happened pretty much following the lastest up date and then the next was just as the ITv & 4OD icons appeared on my system.
The first 3 restores were a total delete everything and start again from the v1 disk. After the latest fail I just deleted the game data and then was able to run PlayTV and it opened as being 2.02 All I had to do was then do a tune and go through the settings options.
The previous time I did not allow the maintenance option. I did not activate the social network side and did not use the TVTE.
I had exactly 30gb of recordings when the system hung. I did leave for 2 days before deleting the game data.

I am in the LE17 post code area and receive transmissions via the Sutton Coldfield (Birmingham) transmitter.

Appart from the hanging and losing of recordings I am experiencing continual messages that programmes are being rescheduled. The latest I note was that the system was reporting that a program on BBC1 channel 1 was conflicting with programme at exactly the same time this on channel 801. Which is also BBC1.
I find that pretty much all of my recordings show as 801/802/803 etc rather than 1/2/3

I have seen a message that a programme has been rescheduled and I have looked and the programme has not moved nor conflicts with anything else.

I will report here individual issues as they now occur.

I have not had a message that a programme has errored because of possibly game play/DVD since the latest system crash.
