UPNP NAS which is Not supporting DLNA

Hi,
A NAS which support UPNP and does not support DLNA (is not indicated in the spec of the NAS) will it be compatible with PS3?
Will PS3 be able to stream from the NAS and play Music, Photos, Movies etc. with out any problems?
I'm planning to buy a NAS. I found that most NAs support UPNP and do not support DLNA.
Actually I' planning to buy the Thecus N0503 ComboNAS.
Is it OK?  PS3 media will work normal?
Thank you for your reply

Re: UPNP NAS which is Not supporting DLNA

Does the NAS have software running on it like twonky media server?

I have a QNAP NAS that works like a dream with the PS3. Have a look into them if I was you. The QNAP NAS is one of the best things I have ever bought.

Here's their product range and check out the features

Following your reply, the specs (see below) of the  Thecus NAS 0503 is supporting UPNP, DLM, TWONKY media, etc. which most probably (99.9%) will be fully compatible with PS3

Thank you

Re: UPNP NAS which is Not supporting DLNA

If it has Twonky media server, it should be fine. On your PS3 under the videos/music/photos xmb you should get a twonky media icon which you click on and then go to the through it's folders etc.

Re: UPNP NAS which is Not supporting DLNA

Just to confirm, I've been using TwonkyVision  with a NAS and a PS3 since version 4 of Twonky, and am now running version 6.0.28 of Twonky and it works like a dream with the PS3.

The only types of problems I have encountered along the way is every so often Sony release a new version of firmware which can make videos unplayable or stuttering.  You then complain to Sony support, they tell you it's the Media Server not streaming correctly and then the next PS3 firmware release magically fixes the problem on the Media Server ;-)

If you are going to stream video I would recommend looking at a wired network connection between the NAS and the PS3, wireless can exhibit buffering issues depending on the quality of the video.

If you want to try out Twonky with your PS3 before shelling out for a NAS, you can download and install a Windows version of Twonkyserver on your PC for a free 30 day trial.
