Yep disc 2 is special features only, it's £12.99 at Play.com which is a great price for such a worthy addition to your collection - get it just for the IMAX sequences alone.

I know the first disk contains the movie itself and the second disk for extras. But why can't these contents be on one disk?

im not sure but its not just dark knight thats 2 disc there many more blurays that have 2 discs so it might just be they way bluray  handles the content

So its a way how bluray handles content, one disk for hd movies and one for features. Even though bluray has more than enough space to contain an hd movie and features all in one disk. That doesn't make any sense.

I think companies should start utlizing bluray for the extra content. Convenient for consumers. Not to mention cost efficient.

Re: Why is The Dark Knight on 2 disks?

it depends on how high the bit rate for the movie is.

HD video and HD sound take up a lot of space, especially when they are at a good bitrate to improve the quality.

(a bit like the old superbit dvd's that had no room for extras)

The Dark Knight picture quality is one of the best blu rays.... this costs space when you use a high bitrate.

rather than compromise quality, they moved the extras to a 2nd disc.

I know im much happier having a near perfect picture and HD sound with a 2nd disc, than a lesser copy with just one disc.

Even when the next super media comes out, im sure the same thing will happen.

Also its quite possible that it is cheaper for them to press all the movie Blu-Rays and the Extras Blu-Rays seperately if they plan on selling some versions without the extras, that way they can get the benefit of higher production numbers on the film and its probably cheaper than the cost of the extras discs

Re: Why is The Dark Knight on 2 disks?

Inevitably it will allow them to market a single disc version at a reduced price
