No previous problems on my 40gb ps3 since i've bought it. Turned on the ps3 and it  needed the update. Mid way through the update it crashed and went to the flashing red light, not possible to turn on the safe mode as it turns off in a second. Is there any possible solutions? Factory reset in a different way perhaps?

Hello pinafal,

Unfortunately if you have a red flashing light then it is unlikely that you will be able fix the console yourself.

I would advise contacting your local PlayStation Support to discuss your repair/replacement options.

Not what i wanted to hear but thanks, Seeing as how the update broke it i'll hopefully be able to get a free repair.

hey since your a community person what did sony put in 4.20 that has hurt so many of peoples ps3s i cant get to the menu tryed everything updating from flashdrive restoring nothing works dont even tell me to call sony already did it please help me your my only hope see what i did there from star wars episode 4

could anyone please tell me if I can get my ps3 fixed.One minute it was fine and then did too blips and turned off I tried turning it back on and then there was a green then a yellow then followed by a red flashing light and turned off again.where could I get this fixed.And if anyone knows anything please tell me.
