I've not let it actually get to the point where it switches off, but at the very least I'm getting an annoying message warning me that the system will turn off soon whilst I am watching bluray movies, to avoid it switching off I hit the PS button on the control pad, but I shouldn't have to

on the xmb, go to 'settings' then 'power save settings'.

you can adjust things there to suit your needs.

yeah but I want it to turn off if it's idling for an hour, not have to set it to 4hrs or more (if I'm watching a season disc with the play all it'll happily take use that much time) otherwise it's effing useless and btw it does shutdown, it just switched off whilst watching a batman movie, *****!!

Set the video game music timer mode to off or 5 hours

Set the Other options to 1 hour...

This way the BD menu will trigger a shut down after 1 hour but the video play back won't.

(Well thats How mine works)
